SESSION 1 FROM OUR SUMMER SERIES! ✨

YAEL FLEXER

Tuesday 3rd August

10 - 11:30am

Studio C, AMATA

£12 In-person

£8 Online

Yael Flexer will be leading a technique class and workshop exploring some of the themes and newly created repertoire from "Imagining Otherwise", an immersive digital dance work she has recently made with her company Flexer & Sandiland. Delivered on Zoom the workshop will begin with improvisations and a short released based technique class adapted to fit small places. The "Imagining Otherwise" project reflects on our experience of parallel time zones, places & lives. Organic digital projections evoke qualities shifting between landscape & the body which together with spoken text, envision space as a simultaneity of possibilities.

Yael Flexer is co-artistic director of Flexer & Sandiland. Originally formed by Yael as Choreographer in Residence at The Place Theatre, London, to date Yael has created 13 full-length productions for the company, touring throughout the UK and internationally. The company has been commissioned to create live and/or interactive works for among others: Brighton Dance Festival and Digital Festival, Sadler’s Wells, Woking Dance Festival, The South Bank Centre, Barbican Centre, London & Cinedans (Amsterdam, The Netherlands).

Yael’s commissions as an independent artist include works for Hull Dance, Three Score, Encore East/Dance East, National Youth Dance Company Scotland, Trinity-Laban, Motus Dance Festival, Maslool, Tel-Aviv, Israel, RAS & Stavanger University, Norway, Edge, Mapdance, YDance Scotland, Wessex Academy, E-Werk Tanz Festival (Germany), Scottish Dance Theatre, Ludus, Gravity & Levity, Freefall and Cascade Dance Companies and numerous works for University students, C.A.T. programmes and other youth companies across the UK and internationally. Yael regularly leads choreographic Labs, workshops and professional training in the UK and internationally, and mentors emerging choreographers. She completed her PhD in March 2013 and also co-directs mapdance, the University of Chichester’s MA/postgraduate repertoire touring company.
